History

The main reason to start the company was an inspiration to solve a problem with defense against airborne germs in operating rooms and to protect patients from infection.

Johnson & Johnson was incorporated in the State of New Jersey on November 10, 1887.

The actual product was a medicinal plaster, an elaborate early version of the Band-Aid. The first bacteriological laboratory was established in 1891.
Johnson’s Baby Powder made its debut in 1893, went on the market in 1894, and the Company’s baby products business was born.

1910: Robert Wood died, his brother James Wood became president, before James’ son, Robert Wood Johnson II became president in 1932.

1921: Band-Aid brand adhesive bandages make their debut.
